Introduction:
A rogue planet is a wandering planet sized mass, without a parent star to call its own. Sounds kind of sad… Eh? I had no father, so like Satan, I too wander about the face of the earth! Astronomers estimate there are billions of these rogue planets orbiting our galaxy, just looking for some parent star somewhere, to adopt it. So such an unlikely scenario can even be possible for our solar system, with a gravitational reach of approximately one light year, or 6 trillion miles…
Ever since I was seven years old,I’ve had my head looking up toward The Heavens! People would say: ‘Watch Darrell! He’s gonna bump right into that pole!’ and sure enough I would! LOL! I kinda wish I could show you my big 10 inch, but someone stole it… Twice I invested $8000 in a 2500mm Schmidt Cassagrin lens I could attach my camera to for a career taking Naturalist photos of animals, and twice it was stolen from me! So there went my career. Sob :O(
For those Astronomy enthusiasts among you, have no fear! Your connection to this wonderous science will be right here with your number one superhero: Asparagus 2030. Today I will direct you to a very interesting article about rogue planets! Astronomy is now in a golden age of planetary discovery.
Many of us are waiting with bated breath for 2018. That’s when ‘The James Web’ scope will be launched! Here is a link for all the news and developement on that. It’s much more powerful than Hubble, and looks for stars using the infrared spectrum, so it can look at stars right through clouds that block them in space!
It’s my sincerest hope that you will read this series on Astronomy both with interest and fascination! After all, one day we will mine and even inhabit these distant planets. Your children definitely will! Did you know here in Ontario, they’re building a space elevator now? I swear on my dead Mummy! Now you are to be whisked away into space… So, lots of reading here! Enjoy!
